How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy can speed up the healing/change process because you deal directly with the subconscious mind where most of our issues reside as well as our own personal healing powers reside. This allows for quick release of blocks, fears, or negative beliefs that are holding you back from being where you wish to be and who you really are.
Will I lose control in any way?
No. You can expect to feel utterly relaxed and in complete control, an issue many clients worry about. We simply work together to put your conscious mind to rest, to allow the subconscious to make the positive changes necessary. You will hear everything that the hypnotherapist is saying or doing, and you will never do or say anything in hypnosis that you would not do or say out of hypnosis.
Will the hypnotherapist be able to program me in a way that is harmful to me?
No. There are many popular misconceptions about Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy, mostly because we are familiar with entertainment acts and Hollywood movies. This is not an accurate picture of hypnotherapy. Remember Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are two separate things. Hypnotherapy is a healing practice undertaken by a certified Hypnotherapist who acts as a professional and gentle guide as you explore areas of your subconscious mind in a respectful, safe environment.
What will hypnotherapy feel like?
During hypnotherapy you will be in a deeply relaxed state. You will hear the voice of the hypnotherapist and visualize a journey with the therapist guiding you along. If you have meditated before, or practiced the type of deep breathing associated with yoga for example, you will recognize this feeling. Most people report feeling very rested and relaxed after a session.
I'm scared about what I might see or experience.
By choosing to undertake this kind of exploration with a professional hypnotherapist, you have essentially hired a guide that is professionally trained to spot trauma or difficulty. You are visualizing the event not experiencing it. When you visualize a fearful situation in hypnotherapy, there are specific techniques used by the hypnotherapist to immediately distance you from what you are visualizing. These events are not a normal part of hypnotherapy as we primarily deal with positive suggestions and positive changes.
How soon will I start to feel better?
Every experience is different. Generally speaking, the mind usually takes more than one session to release significant patterns. Some clients have seen changes in one day. Other times we only clear what we need to immediately. Generally we recommend four to six sessions for permanent results.
How many times do I have to go?
Before we begin with the sessions we will have a consultation together. During this consultation we'll determine what you want to work on and at what intensity you would prefer to proceed. Based on my experience with other clients, we typically recommend a consultation plus three sessions. There are many reasons that permanent results may take more than one session. Sometimes patterns can take time to move. Sometimes people find it difficult to surrender to the feeling of relaxation or surrender their existing beliefs about healing or hypnosis. Some will insist, even while under hypnosis, that it is impossible for them to be hypnotized. The first couple of sessions are sometimes spent understanding those feelings.
Can it be combined with other therapies?
We believe in an integrated approach to wellness. Hypnotherapy is a gentle and non- invasive therapy that can be complimentary to many other therapies. We do a profile during your consultation and ask about other therapies that you may be undergoing. We always recommend that you let your other practitioners including your doctor know that you are working with Hypnotherapy.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Everyone can be hypnotized provided that they want to be. Anyone who wishes to be hypnotized can be. Even people with short attention spans can be hypnotized but the procedure requires special skills on the part of the hypnotist.
What if I do not come out of hypnosis?
Everyone comes out of hypnosis. Remember that you went into hypnosis willingly. So, just as you decided to go into hypnosis, by the same token, you will decide to come out of it. There are a few occasions where some people are enjoying it so much that they resist coming out. But all experienced and well-trained hypnotists have knowledge of many different ways to bring the person around. Since the hypnotist keeps the person under hypnosis, with the persons realization that the hypnotists voice is no longer heard, the person will return to the present.
Is hypnosis in your office like stage hypnosis? Will you make me dance like a chicken?
Hypnosis as used in a hypnotherapist office as a healing or investigative process. The client's welfare is the sole focus of the procedure and the work is geared towards helping the client. Stage hypnosis is a show where people perform acts that are used to entertain an audience. Since the purpose is usually to hold the audiences interest and to entertain them, the subjects are carefully selected and screened before the stage demonstration begins.
When I am hypnotized how am I going to feel? Will I know what is going on? Will I be asleep?
You will certainly NOT be asleep or unconscious. If you were asleep, you would not be able to have a dialogue with your hypnotist. As a matter of fact, during hypnosis you are even more aware of what is going on around you than you would ordinarily be but you can be selective about it (which you cant do in the waking state). While under hypnosis you are in a very relaxed and pleasant state.
