Hypnosis for Stopping the Smoking Habit

Hypnosis for Stopping the Smoking Habit

Is smoking really an addiction or a habit? According to a recent study done by Dr. Reuven Dar, of Tel Aviv University in Israel, researchers have found that smokers find it hard to give up cigarettes not because they are addicted to nicotine as many will have us believe today but simply because it is a habit.

Most smokers continue smoking mainly for 3 basic short-term affects like:

Oral gratification -the need to have something to suck on…kind of like a pacifier or chewing on a pencil.

Sensory pleasure-you enjoy the smell, taste, and feel of a cigarette in your mouth.

Social companionship-most of your friends are also smokers plus you get to smoke outside with the cool dudes.

Once the smoking habit is established, people continue to smoke in response to cues. Examples: “I’m so glad the flight is over now so I can smoke”, or” its break time now so I can have a smoke”, or” I just had a bad fight with my wife/husband/boss, I’ve got to have a smoke” and any other situations or cues that become associated with the smoking habit.

By understanding that smoking is a habit, in order to successfully quit smoking you need to look more at the psychological and behavioral aspects of the habit. This is where hypnosis for stopping smoking comes in. By guiding a person through hypnosis you can successfully replace the behaviors involved with the smoking habit with more healthy and positive behaviors. Hypnosis through hypnotherapy can also be used to increase your motivational desires to quit too.

As a smoker desiring to quit, you need to ask yourself these questions:

Quit Smoking Now

  • How will you stop?
  • When will you stop?
  • What will people think of you when you stop?
  • What will be different when you give it up?
  • What will you be able to do when you give it up?
  • What will you do with the extra time?
  • What will you spend the extra money on?
  • What will be the biggest benefit to quitting?

If you could pick a number between 1 to 10 how strong is your desire to stop?

(1 is lowest and 10 highest)

If the number you picked is 7 or above, then you are definitely on your way to becoming a non-smoker and hypnotherapy is without a doubt the best way to help you achieve this goal of becoming a non-smoker!
